More about ourselves.

This Japanese domestic market (JDM) performance car import and supply enterprise is the brainchild of Steve Coulter, owner of the allvehicles.co.uk new car sales and used car remarketing business and Joe Sacco, owner of Milwards of Lancing, one of the longest established and trusted importers of Japanese cars in the UK. Joe's business recommended by no less an authority than Honest John of the Saturday Telegraph newspaper. Since founding allvehicles Steve's built a fast growing reputation as a supplier of high performance Renaultsport and specialist trackday cars. Both partners share a passion for high performance cars and associated technology as well as a reputation for quality and attention to detail. Amalgamating our combined knowledge of the market and technical know-how gives you the opportunity to tap into many years of acquired experience. You are safe in the knowledge that we only buy what we want to - very carefully chosen cars that we are proud to put our name to.

Before embarking on this enterprise we made the decision that our cars would be beautifully prepared, serviced, valeted and wherever possible returned to as close to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specification. For example, with Honda Integra Type R DC5, tyres that require replacing, are replaced with the Bridgestone Potenza RE040 or Yokohama A046 tyres the car was designed to run on. Why compromise one of the greatest handling cars ever made? Given the opportunity we would shrink wrap the finished article!

Feel free to browse the site and use as a resource to make your own buying decisions. Our services also include sourcing cars to your own requirement to our own high standards. FAQ  Japanese Car Imports

Japanese Car Auctions & Auction Grading

Unlike the majority of the rest of the world, the Japanese drive on the left hand side of the road with right hand drive cars (RHD) - just like here in the UK. Also, due to incredibly stringent ministry tests and emissions regulations, the Japanese tend to replace their cars more frequently than we do in Europe - creating a huge market of three years old and older cars for export. The majority of these cars find themselves offered in car auctions where buyers from the UK and other RHD markets vie to purchase the stock. However, Japanese car auctions are not for the feint hearted. Often sprawling enterprises, far larger than we would comprehend here in the UK, they often run for twenty-four hours a day with registered buyers bidding on screens. The cars are all checked before hand by auction engineers and graded from one to five, with five being the highest grade. Grading however is inconsistent in Japanese auctions with some engineers subjectively grading a car differently to another. We tend to work with grade four or five cars which offer sufficient quality. To enable you to leave the hall during a sale, registered bidders leave provisional bids on the computer system, returning to find out what they have bought. Unlike here in the UK, the cars are moved directly to the port and exported. The first time the cars are driven properly is on this side of the voyage, so an understanding of what you are bidding on and any likely faults is required of anyone prepared to become involved.

The upside though is that there are very many interesting and well maintained cars available, such as the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) Honda Integra DC5 Type R which is not imported to the UK. By purchasing your car through ourselves, you are tapping into our huge resource of knowledge of the market, it's tips and traps. Our associates in Japan are aware of our standards and only bid on higher grade cars.

Service History & Mileage Warranties

The Japanese car owner is less concerned with servicing than his European counterpart. Consequently cars tend not to have the bristling service history you would expect in the UK. When they buy a used car they are more interested in when the car was last serviced. Naturally, because less than half a percent of the population here can understand Japanese or indeed read it, you cannot take a fully stamped service history at face value. Where would you begin to investigate it's authenticity? The exact same applies to Auction Grading forms. So, whatever you are told about the Japanese market car's warranted mileage, it is not prudent to either offer a car as having a guaranteed mileage or to accept that this is the case.

As a consequence, most informed imported Japanese car buyer's will search out the cleanest and less worn examples, which are the kind of cars our Japanese buyers are tasked to locate and secure for us.

Before registration ESVA Test & MOT

Japanese cars are manufactured to their own Japanese Domestic Market standards and have to pass a test once here that confirms they are suitable to be type approved in the same way your European manufactured car would be. These Enhanced Single Vehicle Approval (ESVA) tests are compulsory on a car less than ten years old and are fairly costly. However, to register a car here you are compelled to prove ESVA* compliance. In addition cars have to be made ready for a standard car MOT Test, ensuring all the safety components are serviceable.

* The original Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) test is applied only to cars manufactured in North America and is less stringent than the ESVA version.

Odometers

Upon arrival at our workshops, our sub-contracted engineers convert the odometer from kilometres to miles to conform with UK standards. The correct equivalent is applied, so there is no loss or gain in recorded mileage. In other words, the distance travelled is unaltered.

Registration in the UK

Once in possession of an ESVA Certificate and a valid MOT Certificate, the imported car may be registered and taxed by the DVLA. For ease this is generally in the name of the importing agent, but if you have pre-ordered a car to be imported on your own behalf, we can register the car in your name as the first registered UK owner. For it's lifetime, the V5 will state 'Car previously used abroad before registration in the UK'.

Our preparation

To ensure a quality product, in addition to making ready for an MOT Test, all our cars are fully serviced prior to delivery. Our qualified and knowledgeable mechanics use the best quality oils and parts.

Our warranty

All our Japanese Import cars are sold with a three month warranty supplied by ourselves. However, the inherent reliability of Japanese cars and in particular the Honda Integra DC5 Type R means that we rarely have issues to deal with. Our warranty requires any unforeseen rectification work to be conducted by our own technicians at our own premises. The point of us underwriting our own warranty is that this negates the often applied 'wear and tear' indemnity often used by insurance companies to void a claim. We are far more interested in maintaining our relationship with you and would prefer your car to be repaired by ourselves so we can apply common sense.

Tuning and optional extras

We intend to offer a facility whereby you can pre-order certain tuning parts for your Honda Integra DC5 Type R. Indeed our technician runs an identical model and would be available to offer first-hand advice as to the likely benefit of your expenditure. More soon.

Honda Integra Type R DC5 Technical Resource

As previously described this model offers an almost peerless driving experience for your investment, here's some of the reasons this model performs so well.

Engine

The Honda Integra Type R DC5 is powered by a 2.0-litre DOHC I-VTEC engine developed with excellent intake and exhaust efficiency and a maximum power output of 220PS. The power makes it’s way to the wheels via a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission developed specifically for this model – more details below. The new to this model K20A Engine also combines VTEC technology with VTC (variable timing control) to achieve a maximum power output of 220PS. The VTEC system makes optimum adjustments to high-rev intake/exhaust valve timing and enables variable lift. The new re-designed power plant is around 10kg lighter than the B18C Type R engine – important in the quest to reduce weight and improve BHP per Tonne.

This model also has an ultra-lightweight forged chrome-molybdenum steel flywheel fitted. This lightened and balanced flywheel makes the engine more instantly responsive and gives more immediate power when the driver accelerates.

This series of Honda DOHC VTEC is an intelligent engine which raises torque, improves mpg, and releases low emission exhaust gas. Certain components however such as the cylinder head has been designed exclusively for this version of the Integra Type R. Honda has paid special attention to the casting process for these parts. This enables a big improvement in the efficiency of the intake and exhaust process. This improved efficiency has streamlined the overall combustion process and provided a dramatic improvement in the engine power output and performance of this engine.

An ultra lightweight flywheel made of chrome-molybdenum steel gives this engine a smoother power transition between the engine and the close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox. The lightened flywheel improves both the response and performance of the engine. It gives an instant response at any sudden throttle, when acceleration is demanded at any time as the driver presses the throttle. Amazingly this reduces about 0.3 seconds in accelerating from 0 to 62mph, which equals to a reduction of 50 kg in the car weight.

Integra Type R Gearbox Development

A specially developed close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission uses multiple synchronizing cones for all the gears, including a triple-cone synchronizer in 1st and 2nd gear as well as a double-cone synchronizer in 3rd through to 6th gear.

The DC5 also utilises a speed-sensitive solenoid-type selection lock, ‘RVS’ selection control system, the same system adopted by the NSX model. When vehicle speed exceeds 12mph the solenoid will be set to on, a cam will be locked and so the selection operation to the reverse gear becomes impossible, shift mistakes such as this are therefore eliminated.

In order to reduce the load at the time of shift operation, it is important to increase the synchronization capacity. The DC5 gearbox adapts multi-corn synchronization, using triple corn for 1st and 2nd gear and double corn for 3rd to 6th gears. To improve reliability a 10% increase in diameter size was attained simultaneously. Thus shift load decreases now and a pleasant operation can be enjoyed. Moreover the rubber of the joint portion of the gearshift has a stopper structure which gives a rigid combination. The shift load between 2nd and 3rd gear is 15% lighter than that of the S2000 model and 20% lighter than the Toyota Celica. The Integra provides a gear shift that is both invigorating and highly efficient for quick gear-changing at the optimum revs.

Exhaust

The DC5 Integra uses a new exhaust system that is constructed with variable pipes. The design can alter the priority given to silencing by leading exhaust gas flow to variable paths. At a low rpm region, silence priority becomes first. Sound is reduced and air flow is reduced at the same time. As the engine speed approaches the 5,000 rpm mark, higher exhaust gas flow becomes the priority that requires less back pressure. This design adds an extra 4 BHP and 0.8 kg-m of flow, than the previous system fitted to the cars predecessor. When comparing at 8,000 rpm, only about 1/3 of previous backpressure remains, a major improvement. The sporty nature of the car is emphasized by the adoption of a larger diameter tailpipe finish and exhaust note.

Seating and Trim

The Honda Integra DC5 Type R features very supportive Recaro front seats and a grippy leather wrapped MOMO steering wheel. The Recaro seats come in a number of colours, generally complimentary Red in the White car or Blue in the Artic Blue Metallic car. Occasionally Black Recaro Seats are fitted, but this is more of a rarity.

Brakes

The Type-R makes use of a Brembo 4-port brake system for the front. Brembo is well-known for its performance braking systems for racing cars and are widely utilised as standard equipment on high-end sports cars. The physics of objects during deceleration explains that a higher percent of the vehicle weight is distributed towards the front in relation to the rear. As the Integra Type-R has a front-mounted engine design, the higher front-to-rear weight distribution is greatly compensated by the excellent Brembo 4-port brake system. To ensure braking performance and reliability, the cooling capability is important for the brakes by more air passing through. The result of an extreme continuous breaking test from 160 to 0 km/h shows a reduction of temperature at the front brake pads by about 100 degrees, a significant value. Clearly reducing fade. The front and rear aluminium brake callipers also only weigh about 2.3kg and 1.3kg respectively. These lighter weight components are an important factor to improve the power to weight ratio in extreme high performance cars.

Further innovation

The front lower suspension arm uses forged aluminium enabling weight to be decreased in total by 3.2 kg on these components. The Honda Integra DC5 Type R front and rear-end body is also strengthened by employing aluminium material for the bumper beam and floor crossing beam. The rear brake calliper is also aluminized. From the centre of gravity, lightened components reduce the overall inertia moment as much as possible increasing the handling response.

The Honda Integra Type R DC5 has a safety clutch start system .If the clutch pedal is not depressed, the protection does not allow engine to start.
